Artic Dogs in Singapore?
Recently in Singapore a Alaskan Malamute had died of heat stroke due to negligence of the owner and a Siberian Husky with serious skin condition was abandoned by its owner. Both cases raise an uproar among dog lovers. The question of whether to ban import of Artic dogs into Singapore was also in debate.
Both group of people, those who are for the ban, and those who are against, had their supporting points. Personally, I feel that regardless of which kind of dogs, as long as the owner is irresponsible, any form of abuse or negligence is possible. With responsible Artic dog owners, these dogs can also lead a very nice and comfortable life even in a hot equitorial country like Singapore. For any kind of dogs, there will be certain areas which the owner need to put more effort in.
Let's take McMug (Jack Russell Terrier) for example. His fur is short and doesn't require as much grooming as dogs with long fur like the Maltese(that doesn't mean he doesn't need and grooming). However, JRT is a very active breed and requires lots of exercise and running. If a person is not prepared for this hyperactive dog, please don't bring one home just because you think Milo from The Mask or Wishbone from Wishbone is clever and cute. I remember before I got McMug, I went to a pet shop and found that they have stopped bringing in JRT because a lot of new owners ask to send the dog back because they can't stand the active pooch. At least these people try to find a place for the dog to go. Imagine those who just abandon their dog and let them lead a wandering life on the street.
So henceforth, I ask new dog owners to think very carefully before you decide to get a dog.
(Oh, I just change setting of the "comments". Anyone can post now.)
